The White Gold

Synopsis

At the end of the 16th century, the Portuguese Inquisition arrived in Brazil. Taken by surprise, the inhabitants of the Captaincy of Pernambuco were urged to denounce domestic and religious practices associated with Judaism, and they singled out Branca Dias, a sugar-mill owner, and her daughter Beatriz, “the Hunchback,” as the main targets of accusations. Through careful historical and iconographic research, the film uses delicate painting techniques and refined animation effects to recreate scenes of the period, giving it a singular language.
